At Anime Expo 2025, fans of mystery and supernatural anime were treated to a much anticipated reveal as The Holy Grail of Eris confirmed its January 2026 premiere. Alongside the premiere window, a brand new trailer was unveiled, giving audiences their first extended look at the series' gothic aesthetic and sharp character dynamics. The anime is being produced by Studio Ashi Productions, which was also announced to be behind the adaptation when the project was first revealed in September 2024.

Based on the popular light novel written by Kujira Tokiwa and illustrated by Yuunagi, The Holy Grail of Eris blends aristocratic elegance with ghostly possession in a drama fueled narrative filled with betrayal, dark secrets, and unexpected alliances. The show centers on Constance Grail, a kind hearted but ordinary viscount’s daughter who becomes the target of false accusations and social ruin. Just when all hope seems lost, the ghost of the infamous Scarlett Castiel appears before her with a deal that changes everything.

Scarlett, a charismatic and once revered noblewoman who met a tragic end a decade prior, offers Constance a second chance. In return, she asks for a body through which she can settle old scores and uncover long buried truths. With no better option, Constance agrees, setting off a suspenseful journey where she becomes both a puppet and a partner to the vengeful spirit within her. What follows is a gripping tale of courtroom confrontations, ballroom intrigue, and the psychological battle between two women bound by fate and ambition.

The voice cast announced so far includes Sayumi Suzushiro as the hauntingly charming Scarlett Castiel, Kana Ichinose as the sincere and vulnerable Constance Grail, Yohei Azakami as Randolph Ulster, and M A O as Lily Aulamunde. With this ensemble, the series promises rich emotional delivery and a layered take on power dynamics in high society.

Directing the anime is Morita to Jumpei, with Kenichi Yamashita handling the series composition and script. Character design is being led by Chie Kawaguchi, whose work adds a refined visual tone that suits both the historical and spectral elements of the story. The anime’s design and direction appear focused on capturing the tension between grace and dread, with the trailer already giving fans a taste of dramatic confrontations and eerie atmosphere.

The series has already developed a dedicated following thanks to its manga adaptation illustrated by Hinase Momoyama, which began serialization on Square Enix’s Manga Up platform in 2019. With the manga continuing to draw attention, the anime version is poised to bring the story to an even wider audience. Yen Press holds the English licensing rights for the light novel, ensuring accessibility for international fans eager to dive deeper into the story.

What makes The Holy Grail of Eris stand out is not just its supernatural twist, but the way it uses that element to challenge power hierarchies and social injustice. It is a story where revenge is not just spectacle, but a tool for reclaiming identity and rewriting one’s fate. As Constance and Scarlett’s bond deepens, viewers will be asked to consider how much of themselves they are willing to sacrifice for justice, and what it means to trust someone who has nothing left to lose.

As the countdown to January 2026 begins, The Holy Grail of Eris is quickly shaping up to be one of the most compelling anime in the upcoming season. With its mix of gothic intrigue, strong female leads, and psychological warfare, the series offers a fresh spin on fantasy drama that is both emotionally grounded and visually captivating.
