Fans of fantasy action anime have reason to be excited as My Status as an Assassin Obviously Exceeds the Hero’s continues to build anticipation with a brand new key visual. Scheduled to premiere in October 2025, the anime will be airing across TV Tokyo, BS Fuji, BS, and Animax, and according to the production team, the entire series has already been completed well in advance. This early completion has allowed the team to polish every detail before release.
Director Nobuyoshi Habara offered insight into the unusual production timeline. He explained that most key visuals are typically released during production to set the tone for what’s to come. However, in this rare instance, the key art was finalized after the full series had already wrapped. This gave the creative team the advantage of fully understanding the story and characters before crafting the visual, leading to what he described as a more emotionally accurate and unified image of Akira and the world he inhabits.
Takeo Otsuka, who voices the protagonist Akira Oda, also shared his thoughts on the visual, calling it a dynamic and exciting representation of the characters. He praised the completed footage, highlighting the rich music and intense visuals, and emphasized that the anime has evolved into a powerful experience that fans should definitely look forward to.
The story follows Akira Oda, a quiet and often overlooked student who suddenly finds himself and his entire class transported to a mysterious fantasy world. While the others are destined to take on heroic roles, Akira is assigned the role of an assassin. But unlike what anyone expected, his starting stats and abilities far exceed those of the supposed hero. With a high level of suspicion and keen instincts, Akira begins to uncover unsettling secrets about the kingdom that summoned them. What begins as an isekai fantasy quickly turns into a tale of betrayal, secrets, and revenge. With the help of an elven spirit medium named Amelia, Akira must navigate this treacherous new world and confront the king who pulled the strings behind their summoning.
The anime adaptation is based on the light novel series written by Matsuri Akai and illustrated by Tozai. The original web novel began in 2017 before being picked up by Overlap Bunko for publication. A manga adaptation by Hiroyuki Aigamo is also ongoing. The English versions of both the light novel and manga are being released by Seven Seas Entertainment.
The voice cast includes Takeo Otsuka as Akira Oda, Saku Mizuno as Amelia Rosequart, Sanae Kobayashi as Yoru, Konomi Tamura as Lia Lagoon, and Junichi Suwabe as Saran Mislei. The production team brings together a mix of seasoned talents, including Kunihiko Okada on series composition and script, Hirona Okada and Kaori Saito on character design, and Satoshi Igarashi on music. The monster designs by Rihiro Yamane and animation direction by Mitsuru Ishihara promise an atmospheric and visually striking adaptation.
The opening theme song “Issen” performed by the virtual girl duo VESPERBELL can be heard in the latest trailer, giving fans an early taste of the anime’s tone and energy.
With its complete production, compelling premise, and strong visual design, My Status as an Assassin Obviously Exceeds the Hero’s is shaping up to be a standout title in the upcoming fall season.
