Golden Kamuy is once again expanding its cinematic world with a brand new anime bundled exclusively with the limited edition Blu ray release of its spin off novel Tokushiro Tsurumi no Shukugan. Scheduled to launch on October 17, 2025, the release will include animated adaptations of two fan favorite chapters from the original manga, The Lightning Thief and Viper Ogin and Long Tailed Tit. A new trailer for the project has now been released, along with the announcement of its main voice cast, igniting fresh excitement in the fandom.
This new anime content is a bonus feature that fans of the series will not want to miss. Directed by Shizutaka Sugahara and produced by Brain’s Base, the same studio that handled the acclaimed fourth season of the television series, the animation will continue the franchise’s dedication to high production values and detailed historical storytelling. While the episodes are only available through the Blu ray bundle, their addition makes this upcoming release one of the most anticipated collectibles of the year.
Bringing these vivid characters to life are a group of seasoned voice talents. Koichi Yamadera will lend his voice to Keiichiro Sakamoto, known from The Lightning Thief. Viper Ogin will be voiced by Kotono Mitsuishi, while the adorable Shimaenaga will be brought to life by Ikue Ohtani, widely recognized as the voice of Pikachu. The combination of such an elite voice cast with intense source material makes the release even more exciting for both anime purists and longtime Golden Kamuy enthusiasts.
The source material for this anime remains deeply rooted in Satoru Noda’s award winning manga, which ran in Weekly Young Jump from 2014 to 2022 and compiled thirty one volumes. The series carved a distinct identity within the anime world with its intense blend of historical drama, survival action, and unfiltered humor. With over 29 million copies in circulation, its acclaim includes winning the prestigious Manga Taisho award in 2016 and the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize in 2018.
Golden Kamuy’s anime journey began in 2018 with Geno Studio handling the first three seasons. The torch was later passed to Brain’s Base for Season 4, which aired through 2022 and 2023. The transition in studios did not diminish the show’s quality, and it maintained its gripping storytelling and stunning visual design. The fifth and final season was announced shortly after Season 4 concluded, signaling a climactic end to the saga.
Outside of animation, Golden Kamuy has also ventured into live action adaptations. A feature length film premiered in January 2024, receiving positive reviews for its faithful recreation of the series’ gritty tone and complex characters. Following this, a television drama titled Golden Kamuy: The Battle for the Hokkaido Tattooed Prisoners Arc aired later that year, keeping the momentum alive with audiences. Encouraged by its success, a sequel film is already in development, further extending the universe of Golden Kamuy across mediums.
The upcoming spin off anime bundled with Tokushiro Tsurumi no Shukugan offers not just a side story but a deeper dive into the complex web of characters that fans have grown to love. As it explores untold tales with new perspectives, the project reinforces the richness of the Golden Kamuy world.
