The world of One Piece continues to evolve, and fans are about to experience a brand new musical shift. Starting August 10, 2025, the anime will feature a new ending theme titled "PUNKS" by the dynamic music group Chameleon Lime Whoopiepie. This update comes during the ongoing Egghead Arc and marks the twenty-second ending theme in the anime's long-running history. The new track will replace the current song "The 1" by muque and is expected to bring a futuristic yet deeply human sound to the series' closing moments.
The band will also perform at the highly anticipated One Piece Day ’25 Special Live event, which is scheduled for the same day as the theme's anime debut. Fans can also look forward to the digital release of "PUNKS" just a day later on August 11. With this dual celebration of music and anime, the event promises to be a memorable one for the One Piece community.
Chameleon Lime Whoopiepie’s frontman Chi shared their excitement and disbelief over being chosen to create a theme for a franchise as iconic as One Piece. The emotional response came from a genuine connection to the series, which Chi admitted to following since childhood. While grappling with the pressure and global expectations tied to One Piece, the group embraced their unique musical identity and focused on crafting a song true to their own style. Chi described the creative process as intense, filled with excitement, and inspired by the emotional and rebellious spirit of the One Piece universe. He ended his message with an open invitation to fans everywhere to dance along with the song once it airs.
One Piece has been a global phenomenon since Eiichiro Oda began the manga in July 1997. With more than 500 million copies in circulation as of 2022, the series has become one of the most influential manga of all time. The anime adaptation, which began in October 1999, continues to reach new milestones and is currently moving through the Egghead Arc. After a brief hiatus due to national elections in Japan, the anime will return with Episode 1137 on July 27.
In addition to the new ending theme, the One Piece franchise has several exciting projects in the pipeline. Netflix’s live-action adaptation has teased the appearance of Chopper along with a planned release in 2026. Another anime adaptation by WIT Studio is also in development, offering fans a fresh perspective on the story. The franchise is expanding its reach through multiple collaborations, including a major LEGO set launch on August 1 and partnerships with global sports teams such as the Los Angeles Lakers, Seattle Mariners, Borussia Dortmund, and the Los Angeles Dodgers. Most recently, live-action star Emily Rudd, who plays Nami, participated in a ceremonial first pitch event, further blending the anime with mainstream pop culture.
As One Piece continues to cross boundaries between media and global culture, the new ending theme "PUNKS" is more than just a song. It represents the constant evolution of the series and its ability to connect generations of fans through story, visuals, and sound.
