Golden Kamuy fans can look forward to a fresh wave of content this year. The anime is officially returning with a brand new OVA and a special mini episode, both scheduled to release on October 17, 2025. These episodes will come bundled with the franchise’s first official spinoff novel as part of a limited edition Blu ray set.
The new OVA adapts the Lightning Thief and Viper Ogin arc from the original manga, bringing back the thrilling action and deep emotional resonance the series is known for. A bonus mini episode titled Shimaenaga will also be included. Both are being animated by Brain’s Base, with Shizutaka Sugahara overseeing the project as chief director.
The accompanying spinoff novel, titled Tsurumi Tokushirou No Shukugan, is written by Amon Ibuki. It marks the first full length story in the Golden Kamuy universe not penned by original creator Satoru Noda. The novel will explore Lieutenant Tsurumi’s past during the Russo Japanese War, offering fans an intense new perspective on the infamous 7th Division.
Preorders for the Blu ray bundle are open until August 18, 2025. It is priced at 5,368 yen and includes both animated episodes along with the spinoff novel.
To commemorate the announcement, a striking new key visual from the upcoming OVA was released on Japan’s Lover’s Day, adding a special touch for fans eagerly awaiting the return of the franchise.
Golden Kamuy first ran as a manga in Weekly Young Jump from 2014 to 2022, with 31 volumes in total. Its anime adaptation began in 2018, spanning four seasons. A fifth season, covering the manga’s final arc, has already been confirmed. The franchise also expanded into live action, with a feature film released in January 2024 and a sequel drama series that aired later that year.
