The legendary anime Ronin Warriors is officially returning after an incredible 37 year gap. Titled Yoroi Shin Den Samurai Troopers, the all new anime series is set to premiere in January 2026 and will act as a direct sequel to the original Yoroiden Samurai Troopers, which first aired between 1988 and 1989.
This continuation of the beloved franchise brings the story into modern day Shinjuku and introduces a fresh protagonist named Gai, who will be voiced by Hiiro Ishibashi. Fans can expect a completely original storyline while still remaining deeply connected to the spirit of the classic series.
Sunrise, the same studio that animated the original series, is producing the new anime. The creative team is led by director Yoichi Fujita, widely known for his work on Gintama and Mr. Osomatsu. Shogo Muto, who previously wrote for Kamen Rider Build and Crows Zero, is in charge of screenwriting and series composition.
Character designs are being handled by Yuhei Murota, while Tsukasa Kotobuki takes on villain designs. Hideo Okamoto returns to design the Yoroi Gear, and the music will be composed by Shuji Katayama, promising a powerful soundtrack to accompany the action.
Sunrise shared their excitement about bringing the franchise back to life, calling Yoroi Shin Den Samurai Troopers the rightful sequel and a continuation of a series that left a lasting mark on anime history. The studio expressed its dedication to delivering a story that both honors the original and explores bold new territory.
Ronin Warriors, or Yoroiden Samurai Troopers, originally ran for 39 episodes and became a cult favorite around the world. A manga adaptation was also published in Kodansha’s Comic BomBom, running from 1988 to 1990.
The new teaser trailer and key visual have already stirred excitement among longtime fans and new viewers alike. With a modern setting, a fresh cast, and a returning creative legacy, this upcoming sequel is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated anime events of 2026.
