The dark and iconic world of Tokyo Ghoul is returning to the big screen for one night only. In celebration of the anime’s 10th anniversary, Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment have announced the release of a compilation movie titled Sink Your Teeth: A Tokyo Ghoul Celebration. The film, which runs 147 minutes, will screen in select US theaters on July 21, offering fans a chance to relive the chilling beginnings of Ken Kaneki’s transformation from an ordinary college student to a tortured half ghoul.
This special compilation will feature six pivotal episodes from the first season of Tokyo Ghoul, including episodes 1, 5, 8, 10, 11, and 12. These specific chapters have been carefully curated to highlight the emotional arc of Kaneki, his descent into the underground world of ghouls, and his internal struggle with identity and survival. For longtime fans, it is a chance to revisit the narrative that shook the anime community a decade ago. For newcomers, it is a condensed yet impactful entry into one of the most haunting series of modern anime.
The storyline remains as gripping as ever. Ken Kaneki begins as a quiet bookworm in a world where human like ghouls prey on the living. But after a seemingly innocent date with Rize Kamishiro takes a violent turn, Kaneki undergoes a life saving operation that leaves him part human, part ghoul. As his humanity slips away, he must learn to exist in a society divided by fear, hunger, and violence. The selected episodes trace his moral collapse, his awakening to his ghoul instincts, and his fractured connections with both humans and ghouls.
The film will be available in both Japanese with English subtitles and a full English dub. The original creative team is credited, including director Shuhei Morita, writer Chuji Mikasano, character designer Kazuhiro Miwa, and composer Yutaka Yamada, whose unforgettable score continues to haunt fans years later. Studio Pierrot, the studio behind the anime, returns to handle the visuals for this special edition.
The voice cast includes Natsuki Hanae reprising his role as Ken Kaneki, Sora Amamiya as the fierce Touka Kirishima, and Kana Hanazawa as the chillingly enigmatic Rize Kamishiro. A new trailer for the compilation movie has also been released, stirring fresh hype across social platforms.
This celebration is not only a nod to Tokyo Ghoul’s powerful storytelling and emotional intensity but also a tribute to the legacy it built in the anime world. The timing coincides with a recently released new music video for the iconic opening theme Unravel, further immersing fans in the anniversary experience. The renewed attention has brought old fans back and drawn in a new generation of viewers curious about the grim beauty of Sui Ishida’s original story.
Tokyo Ghoul’s full journey, including Tokyo Ghoul √A and Tokyo Ghoul:re, is currently available for streaming on Crunchyroll. But this theatrical compilation offers something uniquely emotional for fans a focused spotlight on the origins of a character who remains one of anime’s most psychologically complex protagonists.
