It was later picked up for official publication by Kadokawa with illustrations by MEPHISTO. The story gained traction quickly, winning first place in the User Recommendations category at the 2020 Kakuyomu Awards and second place overall in the Tsugirano Awards, which spotlight rising light novel talent. The English language release is being handled by Yen Press, signaling growing global interest in the title.
The narrative centers on Xylo Forbat, a convicted soldier assigned to the 9004th Penal Hero Unit. Rather than celebrating victory or glory, his path is one of redemption, punishment, and moral ambiguity.
