After over a decade of silence, the explosive world of Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt has finally returned to screens. The new series, simply titled New Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt, has premiered as part of the Summer 2025 anime season on Amazon Prime. With the original creative team back on board and Studio Trigger’s signature energy on full display, the first episode wastes no time in reminding fans exactly what made the original such a cult phenomenon.

From the very first scene, the animation grabs you. Studio Trigger has once again delivered an outrageously stylish visual treat packed with vivid colors, electric backgrounds, and over the top character expressions that shift styles without warning. What’s remarkable is how the show embraces chaos while maintaining remarkable fluidity. Even the limited animation sequences are bursting with personality, proving again that the Panty & Stocking universe obeys its own twisted rules of beauty.

What truly defines this show, however, is its complete rejection of filters. The first episode of the sequel is unapologetically vulgar, hilariously inappropriate, and filled with jokes that no other anime would dare attempt. From explosive visual gags to scenes that revolve around Panty's missing vagina, the writing goes places that make most mainstream anime blush. Fans familiar with the English dub of the original will remember how the localization turned up the absurdity. Although Amazon has changed the voice cast and stuck closer to the Japanese script, the new dub remains wildly irreverent and impressively sharp, delivering the kind of experience that works in both languages.

Narratively, the new series is off to a deliberately messy start. It picks up immediately after the original’s infamous twist ending, and in true Panty & Stocking style, it tosses logic out the window. Stocking’s betrayal is waved away as simple brainwashing. Panty is quickly revived. Scanty and Kneesocks randomly join the team with no real explanation beyond everyone just deciding to move on. And that is exactly why it works. The show leans into its lazy reset with full confidence, embracing its cartoon roots and reminding audiences that this universe exists purely for wild storytelling and visual mayhem, not continuity or coherence.

Despite the long gap between seasons, the energy and intent behind the series remain intact. The premiere captures everything that fans loved about the original and turns it up further, without pretending to be anything it’s not. It is loud, crude, creative, and completely uninterested in traditional anime structure. That raw honesty is what makes it feel so refreshing in today’s polished anime landscape.

Now the question is whether the sequel can sustain its momentum. The anime world in 2025 is saturated with both high profile sequels and impressive new titles, making it harder for niche cult classics to reclaim space. But New Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt may just defy the odds. With Studio Trigger’s name behind it and a premiere this self assured, it already feels like a welcome comeback. If it continues on this path, fans are in for a wild season of brilliance and chaos.

New episodes of New Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt release every Wednesday on Amazon Prime.
