Fans of gritty fantasy worlds were treated to a chilling update as Blade & Bastard took the stage at Anime Expo 2025. A new character focused teaser trailer confirmed the main voice cast and gave a deeper look into the unsettling world of this dungeon crawling drama. Adapted from the light novel by Goblin Slayer author Kumo Kagyu and Overlord illustrator So Bin, Blade & Bastard continues to build hype as one of the most intriguing new projects in the genre.

The cast includes Makoto Furukawa voicing the resurrected adventurer Iarumas, Tomori Kusunoki as the wild swordswoman Garbage, Daiki Yamashita as Raraja, Saori Hayami as Ainikki, and Shion Wakayama as Berkanan. Except for Wakayama, most of the cast had previously lent their voices to an earlier promotional trailer for the novel, making this anime adaptation a natural evolution of the project. Their performances in the new teaser bring an eerie intensity to the mysterious narrative.

The anime’s latest teaser also updated its visual presentation, now showcasing the full cast lineup with fresh key art that captures the cold, grim atmosphere of the world they inhabit. The Blade & Bastard story begins in a forgotten corner of a vast and deadly dungeon. A corpse is discovered in a place where it should never have existed. That corpse is Iarumas. Revived without memories of his past life, he now works by retrieving dead adventurers from the dungeon's depths and delivering their bodies to an altar where the gods may or may not grant them another chance.

But Iarumas is no hero. He is feared and shunned for his emotionally distant methods. The living avoid him. He walks among the dead. His only company is the ever increasing number of bodies he pulls from the abyss. That is until he meets Garbage, a fierce young woman who survived a brutal massacre and whose wild strength might be the key to surviving deeper descents. Together, they navigate a dungeon filled with ruthless creatures, deadly traps, and long forgotten secrets, all while uncovering lost memories and forbidden truths.

The anime is being adapted from the novel Blade & Bastard: Warm Ash, Dusky Dungeon, which was one of the first titles published under Drecom Media’s DRE Novels imprint in 2022. J Novel Club is handling the English release and has praised the series for its grim tone and morally complex world. The story’s blend of resurrection lore, godly rituals, and psychological survival has already made it a cult favorite among light novel readers.

With a gripping new teaser and a stellar cast, Blade & Bastard is shaping up to be one of the most compelling fantasy anime entries of the coming year. As more details about the studio, release window, and theme songs are expected to roll out in the next few months, fans can now look forward to a unique journey through darkness, death, and the search for forgotten identity.
