Anime fans attending New York Comic Con 2025 are in for a treat. Crunchyroll has confirmed that the first episode of You Can't Be In a Rom-Com with Your Childhood Friends! will premiere at the Crunchyroll Premieres Round 2 panel on Sunday, October 12. About the Story
Based on Shinya Misu’s hit manga serialized in Kodansha’s Magazine Pocket since March 2022, the story follows high schooler Eeyuu, who finds himself in an awkward situation with his childhood friends Shio and Akari. Both girls are undeniably cute and go to the same school, but Eeyuu struggles with the embarrassment of realizing he might be the only one seeing them in a more mature light. Meanwhile, Shio and Akari each have their own secrets, sparking a whirlwind of comedic, awkward, and heartwarming moments. The manga has already released 17 volumes in Japan, proving its popularity ahead of the anime adaptation.
Production and Cast
Tezuka Productions is handling the animation for the series, promising a faithful and vibrant adaptation of Misu’s work. The initial voice cast includes Rin Kusumi as Shio Minamo, Yu Serizawa as Akari Hiodoshi, and Sae Hiratsuka as Runa Tsukimi. More cast and staff announcements are expected in the coming months, but fans are already excited to see how the studio will bring the beloved characters to life.
