The Frontier Lord Begins with Zero Subjects is set to become the next big fantasy anime as it officially enters production. Announced through a newly released teaser visual and announcement video, the anime brings to life the story of a war hero turned unlikely landowner, dropped into an empty, untamed territory where his only ally is a mysterious horned girl.

The anime will be produced by animation studio42, with Kenichi Imaizumi directing the series. The script is being penned by Kunihiko Okada, and character designs are in the hands of Keiichi Tsuboyama. The main voice cast features Shion Wakayama as Alna and Kenichiro Matsuda as Dias, bringing fresh energy to the lead characters. These names, known for their work in recent acclaimed series, are already sparking excitement among anime followers.

Based on the light novel series written by Fuurou and illustrated by Kinta, The Frontier Lord Begins with Zero Subjects started as a web novel on Shosetsuka ni Naro in 2018. Earth Star Entertainment soon picked it up, releasing the official light novel edition later that year. The series also has a manga adaptation by Yumbo, which has been ongoing since December 2018. To celebrate the anime news, both Kinta and Yumbo released commemorative illustrations that reflect the heart and charm of the series.

In the story, Dias is a veteran warrior who finally returns home after years of war. As a reward, he is granted his own domain. But his excitement quickly fades when he realizes the territory he has been given is nothing but vast, empty land with no people. With no experience beyond the battlefield and no citizens to govern, Dias is completely unprepared. That is until he meets Alna, a horned girl who seems to know the land better than anyone and may just hold the key to building something from nothing.

With J-Novel Club handling the English release, international fans will be able to follow the anime closely when it premieres. While an official release date has not been revealed yet, the announcement has already stirred anticipation, especially among readers who have long followed Dias's journey from hardened soldier to hopeful ruler.

Anime fans eager for stories filled with quiet growth, strong character arcs, and fantasy world-building will want to keep an eye on this one. The premise may start with an empty field, but the emotional and narrative potential of this anime is anything but barren.
