Fans of The Detective Is Already Dead can officially mark their calendars. The anime has just dropped a brand new key visual teasing the return of Siesta and confirmed a release window for Season 2 in 2026. This announcement has brought fresh excitement to a fandom that has been waiting patiently since the sequel was first revealed back in July 2022.

The newly released visual centers on Siesta, the iconic silver-haired detective, who continues to hold the emotional core of the story even after her supposed death. The design reflects both elegance and melancholy, offering a reminder of the deep emotional tone that Season 1 carried through its blend of mystery, romance, and loss. The announcement follows an earlier teaser visual released in September 2024, but this is the first full key visual providing a glimpse into the tone of the upcoming season.

Returning for Season 2 is director Manabu Kurihara, who also led the first season at studio ENGI. Deko Akao will once again be in charge of the series composition and script, ensuring continuity in storytelling. Character designer Yosuke Ito is also returning, bringing back the signature aesthetic that fans connected with during the original 12-episode run in 2021.

The series originally captivated audiences with its unusual premise. Kimihiko Kimizuka, an ordinary high school student, found his life turned upside down after a chance encounter with the dazzling detective Siesta aboard a hijacked plane. What followed was a globe-spanning string of cases and chemistry between the two leads, only for the story to take a tragic turn when Siesta was abruptly killed. The first season then picked up a year after her death, with Kimihiko stumbling into a new mystery that seemed to intertwine with Siesta’s legacy in haunting ways.

The source material, a Japanese light novel series written by Nigozyu and illustrated by Umibozu, continues to expand its universe. As of November 2024, twelve volumes have been published by Media Factory, with the thirteenth volume set for release on July 25, 2025. The story has also seen two manga adaptations one by Mugiko and another by Poni spanning different parts of the narrative timeline. In English-speaking regions, Yen Press holds the license for the light novels, while Crunchyroll remains the official streaming partner for the anime.

Season 2 is expected to continue exploring the unresolved tensions left behind by Siesta’s mysterious death and the shadow it casts over Kimihiko’s present. While plot details remain under wraps, the involvement of the original creative team promises that the series will maintain its mix of heartache, thriller elements, and character-driven suspense. With new enemies and secrets to uncover, the next season is poised to delve even deeper into the psychological aftermath of loss and the enduring question: is the detective truly gone?

Fans are encouraged to keep an eye on official updates as the release year approaches. More visuals, teasers, and casting news are likely on the horizon, especially with the franchise steadily building momentum again through social media and related events.
