One of the most celebrated games of the last decade is now making the leap to anime. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, the hit action-adventure title from FromSoftware and Activision, will be adapted into a full anime series under the title Sekiro: No Defeat. The series is scheduled to premiere in 2026 and will stream exclusively on Crunchyroll worldwide, with the exception of Japan, China, Korea, Russia, and Belarus.

The announcement came with a dramatic new trailer and a striking key visual that immediately captured the attention of fans. The adaptation is being produced by Qzil.la in collaboration with Kadokawa and ARCH, with animation handled by a team of highly experienced creators.

Director Kenichi Kutsuna expressed his excitement for the project, calling it a monumental task to adapt the breathtaking world of Sekiro. He emphasized that the anime is being created with the same intensity, beauty, and precision that made the game a global phenomenon. According to Kutsuna, the goal is to deliver a visually stunning and emotionally gripping experience that will resonate not only with fans of the game but also with viewers discovering the world of Sekiro for the first time.

Crunchyroll’s Chief Content Officer, Asa Suehira, also shared his enthusiasm, noting that the intensity and precision of the game naturally translate into an anime experience. He added that Sekiro: No Defeat is a chance to expand one of the most iconic modern gaming stories into a new medium that can reach an even larger audience.

The anime boasts an impressive production team, including screenwriter Takuya Satou, character designer Takahiro Kishida, and composer Shuta Hasunuma, whose work will bring the haunting and atmospheric music of the game to life in a new way. Additional staff such as Yuji Kaneko as art director and Takashi Mukoda as action animation director ensure that the series will capture both the aesthetic and the thrilling swordplay of the game.

The initial voice cast has also been revealed. Daisuke Namikawa will voice Wolf, the skilled shinobi protagonist. Miyuki Satou will play Kuro, the Divine Heir, while Kenjiro Tsuda takes on the role of Genichiro Ashina, one of the game’s most memorable characters. Fans can expect more casting announcements as the series approaches release.

First released in 2019, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice was praised for its challenging combat, stunning world design, and deep story rooted in Japanese history and mythology. The game went on to sell over 10 million copies worldwide and won multiple awards, including Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2019. Its upcoming anime adaptation is seen as a natural continuation of its legacy, offering a new way for audiences to experience the rich world of Sekiro.

As anticipation builds for its release in 2026, Sekiro: No Defeat is shaping up to be one of the most talked-about anime projects of the decade, combining the storytelling power of FromSoftware with the artistry of Japan’s top animation talents.
