The beloved fantasy adventure Made in Abyss is officially making its return, this time as a sequel movie series. The first installment, titled Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun – The Awakened Enigma (unofficial translation), is scheduled for release in 2026. The announcement came alongside a haunting new teaser visual featuring two new characters, Tepaste and Cravagli, shown inside the mysterious Tumble Tavern.
This movie will pick up right where the 2022 anime season left off, continuing the story of Riko, Reg, and Nanachi as they journey deeper into the Abyss. The same studio that brought the previous chapters to life, Kinema Citrus, is returning for this sequel, ensuring that the emotional and visual richness the series is known for will carry forward. Longtime director Masayuki Kojima is once again at the helm, with Hideyuki Kurata writing the screenplay. Character design will be led by Yuka Kuroda and Kazuchika Kise.
The returning voice cast includes Miyu Tomita as Riko, Mariya Ise as Reg, Shiori Izawa as Nanachi, and Misaki Kuno as Faputa. Fans can expect to dive back into the dangerous depths of the Abyss with familiar voices and a renewed sense of mystery.
Originally created by Akihito Tsukushi, Made in Abyss follows the perilous descent of a young girl and her robotic companion as they explore a vast and treacherous pit filled with relics, creatures, and the remnants of lost civilizations. The manga has captivated millions and now boasts over 22 million copies in circulation.
To celebrate the return of the series, a film concert titled Made in Abyss Film Concert: Deep Echoes of Resonance will be held on February 8, 2026, at Nakano ZERO Grand Hall in Tokyo. The concert will feature a live orchestra conducted by composer Kevin Penkin, performing the emotional soundtrack of the anime with scenes projected on a giant screen. Vocalists Ko Saito and KIHOW from MYTH & ROID, who previously performed theme songs for the series, will also perform live. Fans will be thrilled to know that Miyu Tomita, Mariya Ise, and Shiori Izawa are set to appear at the event.
In addition to the movie and concert, a new Bondrewd-themed pop-up store and a fragrance collaboration are being planned, adding even more depth to the Made in Abyss universe and fan experience.
With the release just months away, excitement continues to build as Made in Abyss prepares to pull us once again into its beautifully dark world.
