Anime fans in India are about to witness something historic. For the first time ever, a large-scale anime-exclusive convention is being organized in the country, and it is set to bring together passionate fans, major Japanese creators, and an exciting lineup of events under one roof. Anime India, jointly announced by AnimationXpress and Anime Times, will take place from August 22 to 24 at Hall 1 of Nesco Bombay Exhibition Centre in Mumbai.

Tetsuro Araki, the acclaimed director behind anime powerhouses like Attack on Titan and Death Note, will be attending the convention as a special guest. This will mark his first official visit to India, and he will appear for an on-stage panel and audience Q&A session. Joining him will be Hideo Katsumata, the CEO of Anime Times and former president of Avex Pictures, adding more industry insight to the guest list.

Across three days, Anime India promises a celebration of all things anime. The event will include anime film screenings, concerts, cosplay competitions, anime-themed cafés, interactive panels, and a wide variety of fan experiences. Attendees can look forward to an unforgettable performance by Japanese anime DJ and singer Touko Nakamura on August 24, as well as a special meet-and-greet with popular DJ and cosplayer Tsunko.

The convention also plans to host fan contests such as a singing competition, anime trivia quiz, and a full-fledged anime film festival, turning the space into a cultural hub for enthusiasts of Japanese entertainment. Official merchandise from leading anime titles will be available at the venue, with booths from notable companies like Ani-One Asia, Medialink, and more.

Tickets are now live on District by Zomato and are available at several pricing tiers, ranging from ₹199 to ₹1499, making the event accessible for casual fans and hardcore otaku alike. The announcement marks a significant milestone for Indian anime fandom, one that signals a rising demand for more immersive, in-person experiences with creators and content from Japan.

Anime India is not just a convention. It is a moment of recognition for the growing anime fanbase across the country, offering a space where community, culture, and creativity come together. With global icons, fan-led activities, and direct access to exclusive anime content, this event could very well redefine the anime scene in India.
