A Beloved Manga Steps Into Anime

Fans of the lighthearted and witty manga Gals Can’t Be Kind to Otaku!? have reason to celebrate. The series is officially set to receive an anime adaptation in 2026. To commemorate the announcement, both author Norishiro-chan and illustrator Sakana Uozumi released special illustrations, while an official website for the project has also gone live.

Manga Background and Popularity

The manga first launched in Coamix’s Monthly Comic Zenon in August 2021 and has quickly grown into a fan favorite with 10 volumes already in circulation. Its unique charm lies in how it bridges two seemingly opposite worlds—flashy, outgoing “gals” and quiet, reserved otaku—through unexpected connections and humor. Yen Press will begin releasing the manga in English starting October 28, 2025, further expanding its reach to international audiences.

A Quirky Romance Story

At the center of the story is Takuya Seo, an otaku who never expected his life to intertwine with the most popular girls in his class. Sitting behind Ijichi and Amane, Takuya assumes they live in different worlds. However, one day, a small incident with a borrowed eraser leads to him slipping up about his favorite anime. To his surprise, Amane responds with striking familiarity. She insists she is not a fan, yet her knowledge suggests otherwise. Could she be hiding her own geeky side? This simple yet relatable setup fuels a romantic comedy filled with misunderstandings, hidden passions, and unexpected friendships.

What to Expect from the Anime

While the production studio, staff, and voice cast have yet to be announced, anticipation is already high. The anime promises to retain the manga’s humor and heartfelt charm while bringing its lively characters to life with animation. Fans are especially eager to see how the series balances its comedic tone with the sweet and awkward moments of budding romance.

A New Addition to the Rom-Com Lineup

With its engaging premise and growing popularity, Gals Can’t Be Kind to Otaku!? is set to join the ranks of beloved school-life romantic comedies in anime. It offers a fresh spin on the genre by celebrating both the fashionable and the geeky sides of youth culture, proving that love and friendship can blossom in the most unexpected places.
