Fans of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End were treated to some exciting updates during the Anime Expo 2025 panel as the second season unveiled its first trailer alongside a major creative shift. Tomoya Kitagawa, who previously contributed as an episode director and storyboard artist in the first season, has now taken over as the new director of the series. Meanwhile, Keiichiro Saito, who directed the highly acclaimed first season, will continue to be part of the team in a supervisory role.

The announcement also came with a significant global update. Crunchyroll has secured the streaming rights for Season 2 across all major regions excluding Asia. This includes countries in the Indian Subcontinent, which means Indian anime fans will be able to watch the episodes simultaneously as they air in Japan. The decision signals Crunchyroll’s growing investment in making high quality anime accessible to a worldwide audience at the same pace as domestic viewers.

The new trailer, which premiered during the panel, offered a glimpse into the tone and journey of Season 2, continuing the emotionally rich and visually stunning storytelling that made the first season a standout. The animation will once again be produced by Madhouse, promising the same high production value that audiences have come to expect.

Joining Kitagawa in the creative team is Daiki Harashina as assistant director, while Tomohiro Suzuki returns as the series composer. The music will again be composed by Evan Call, whose ethereal scores in the first season contributed heavily to the show’s emotional depth. The character design responsibilities are now being handled by Takasemaru, Keisuke Kojima, and Yuri Fujinaka, with Seiko Yoshioka taking charge of concept art.

Season 2 was originally confirmed in September 2024 following the critical and commercial success of the first season, which aired from September 2023 to March 2024. The show captivated viewers with its unique approach to post quest storytelling, focusing on Frieren, an elf mage dealing with the aftermath of a completed heroic journey and the slow unraveling of time, memory, and emotion.

The anime is based on the manga written by Kanehito Yamada and illustrated by Tsukasa Abe, which continues to be published in Weekly Shonen Sunday by Shogakukan. As of March 2025, fourteen collected volumes have been released. By February 2025, the series had already crossed over 24 million copies in circulation, cementing its place among the top modern fantasy manga globally. The English version is published by Viz Media, while Southeast Asia distribution is managed by Shogakukan Asia.

With a refreshed directorial vision, a globally synchronized release plan, and unwavering support from its original studio and team, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Season 2 is poised to carry forward the emotional magic that has resonated with fans around the world.
