The anime adaptation of A Mangaka’s Weirdly Wonderful Workplace has fans buzzing after revealing a striking new key visual, announcing additional cast members, and confirming its premiere date for October 6. The show introduces Saori Hayami as Yuzuki Hazama and Sumire Uesaka as Nagomi Hayachine, joining an already talented ensemble including Yuko Natsuyoshi as Nana Futami, Sora Amamiya as Kaede Satou, Miku Ito as Mizuki Hazama, Yu Kobayashi as Arisa Nashida, Eriko Matsui as Toko Nodate, and Miharu Hanai as Nekonote.
Based on the manga written and illustrated by Kuzushiro, the series is brought to life by studio Voil under the direction of Kaoru Suzuki. Mio Inoue oversees the series composition while Kana Miyai lends her artistry to the character designs. The musical score is handled by Kei Haneoka and Hironori Doi, creating a lively and immersive soundtrack. Fans can also look forward to the opening theme “Zettai Shosan” performed by HoneyWorks featuring HaKoniwalily and the ending theme “Thankful” by Sizuk, both of which were highlighted in the anime’s previous trailer released last July.
The story centers around Futami, a rookie shojo manga artist who is finally able to publish her dream shogi manga Subaru e. With the support of her reliable assistant and a cool editor, she navigates the daily challenges of her creative world. While striving to meet deadlines, dealing with stomachaches, and overcoming storyboard blocks, Futami often finds herself stuck at her desk, snacking late into the night, and lost in fantastical daydreams.
Originally published as a one-shot in Kodansha’s Kiss josei manga magazine in February 2019, the manga quickly gained traction and began serialization on Kodansha’s Comic Days website in May 2019. Fans are eager to see how the charmingly chaotic world of Futami will be translated into animation with the talented cast and creative team behind the series.
With its combination of heartfelt storytelling, comedic moments, and a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the life of a manga artist, A Mangaka’s Weirdly Wonderful Workplace promises to be a standout addition to this year’s anime lineup.
